Longtown Community Primary School

Curriculum

"Everyone strives to be their very best"

The Curriculum followed by each class appears below - but do look at the individual class pages too.  If you require further details about any element of our curriculum please ask your child's class teacher.

At Longtown, we use a two-year cycle across the curriculum to accommodate our mixed-age group classes (Cycle A and Cycle B).  For a quick overview of the subjects children will be learning about across the curriculum in each class each half-term, please refer to the topic webs below.

KS1 refers to Years 1 and Year 2; Lower KS2 refers to Years 3 and 4; Upper KS2 refers to Years 5 and 6.

Above all we want our children to enjoy their time at school and we always have in mind that a happy child is a learning child.

Calculating  in Longtown

If you missed the presentation about how we teach maths calculations here at Longtown, please click here to access information to enable you to help your child with maths.

Your child will soon be bringing home Key Instant recall facts each half of term. Please help your child to learn these facts little and often to support their mental maths learning.

KS1 Phonic and Reading  Schemes

We follow the Read Write Inc phonics scheme and reading scheme.

Mental Health and Wellbeing

This year we are looking forward to holding a Mental Health and Wellbeing week in School just before February half term. We will be focusing on the Place2Be theme of Connectivity.
